Santa Clara, CA- The Brown men's water polo team (14-6) fell 9-4 to No. 18 Cal Baptist on Saturday afternoon, but came back with a 12-10 victory over No. 18 Air Force during the Rodeo Invitational hosted at Santa Clara.
In Brown's first game of the day against Cal Baptist, the game was tied 2-2 after the first eight minutes of play, but the Lancers were able to outscore Brown 3-2 in the second quarter to take a 5-4 lead by halftime.
Cal Baptist silenced Brown's offense in both the third and fourth quarters to extend its lead to 9-4 to end the game.
Junior Svetozar Stefanovic led Brown's offense with two goals, while James McNamara and Dean Serure chipped in with the other goals. McNamara added six steals and Michael Hartwick picked up five steals, while Walker Shockley tallied eight saves in net.
But the Bears would not dwell on their less and came back with a big win over Air Force in the second game of the day. Tied 3-3 after the first quarter, Brown went on to outscore Air Force 4-3 in the second and 3-2 in the third to gain a 10-8 lead heading into the final quarter of play. Both squads netted two goals in the final eight minutes as the Bears came with the 12-10 win.
McNamara led the attack with four goals, six teals and two assists, while Stefanovic added three goals, two steals and an assist. Also scoring was Henry Fox and Nick Deaver with two goals each, and Michael Hartwick added one. Shockley posted 11 saves in goal for the Bears to lead the defensive effort.
The Bears will end the tournament today be playing #3 Stanford and #12 UC Davis.
