Water Polo Sweeps CWPA Honors for Second Consecutive Week

After a 14-12 victory over Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Sunday, Brown junior Gordon Hood (Carlsbad, CA) was named the Collegiate Water Polo Association’s Player of the Week, while freshman Svetozar Stefanovic (Belgrade, Serbia) earned Rookie of the Week honors.

Hood played a phenomenal game for the Bears on Sunday as he scored seven goals and handed out three assists during the Senior Day victory at Wheaton College. He helped Bruno rally from a 4-2 first period deficit to outscore the Engineers 6-1 in the second period to carry an 8-5 lead into halftime, which proved critical on the way to the two-goal win.

Stefanovic garnered his eighth weekly award from the CWPA as he was named the Rookie of the Week six times (Sept. 7, Sept. 21, Oct. 12, Oct. 19 and Oct. 26). He earned CWPA Player of the Week honors on Sept. 14 and Sept. 28.

Last week, Stefanovic scored twice with five assists and three steals during the win over MIT in non-league play. Brown will now prepare for the Northern Division Championships at Harvard this weekend. The Bears are slated to play the winner of MIT and Harvard at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7.
