Svetozar Stefanovic Named CWPA Northern Division Rookie of the Week

For the third consecutive week, Brown University utility player Svetozar Stefanovic (Belgrade, Serbia) was named the CWPA Northern Division Rookie of the Week. In the history of the conference, he became the first student-athlete (male or female) to earn recognition from the league in their first three weeks of collegiate competition.

Stefanovic tallied 13 goals with four assists, five steals and 10 ejections drawn, including a season-high seven goals again No. 20 Johns Hopkins, to lead the No. 16 Bears to a fourth-place finish at the 2009 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship.

Against Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Brown’s opening game, he pumped in four goals and two assists to key the Bears to an 8-4 victory. He followed up the performance with a pair of goals vs. No. 20 Princeton (L, 10-8) before rifling home seven goals while collecting four steals and drawing seven ejections against No. 20 Johns Hopkins in a 13-12 loss en route to a fourth place finish for Bruno. The placement marks Brown’s highest finish at ECAC’s since recording a fourth place mark in the 2003 championship hosted by Brown.

Brown will now open up Northern Division play when it takes on MIT at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 24.
