Svetozar Stefanovic Named Northern Division Player of the Week

Brown freshman Svetozar Stefanovic (Belgrade, Serbia) made
history as he earned his fourth weekly honor from the Collegiate
Water Polo Association (CWPA) by being named the Northern Division
Player of the Week.
Earning both the Sept. 7 and Sept. 21 Northern Division Rookie of
the Week, Stefanovic picked up his second Player of the week nod
after previously earning the award on Sept. 14. He becomes the
first player in league history to earn weekly honors for four
consecutive weeks, and the first league newcomer to earn honors in
three or more consecutive weeks.
“It’s great to see any of our athletes recognized for
individual achievements,” said Head Coach Felix Mercado.
“I know that if you asked him about it he would be telling
you how it wouldn’t be possible if it wasn’t for the
way the team has been playing. He is a phenom and he is only going
to get better. So is this team.”
Last week, Stefanovic helped Brown defeat Fordham (W, 11-9) and
MIT (W, 6-5) in Northern Division competition before falling to
Saint Francis College (NY) in non-conference action.
Against the Engineers of MIT, he netted two goals with a pair of
steals before registering two goals, an assist, a steal with two
ejections drawn versus the Fordham Rams. He wrapped up his weekend
with a goal, a field block and four ejections drawn against the
Terriers of St. Francis.
