Providence, RI - George Evans has been named the Assistant Coach for Sprints & Hurdles at Brown University. Evans comes to Brown after spending two years as the men's and women's sprints coach at Youngstown State in Youngstown, OH.
"George Evans is a fantastic addition to our coaching staff. He is young and enthusiastic and can relate well to the student-athletes. George brings great athletic experience as well as coaching experience in the sprints and hurdles. He will help us build a top notch track and field program here at Brown." said Craig Lake, Director of Cross Country and Track & Field.
"I am extremely excited for the opportunity to work with such talented athletes in a premier academic institution." said Evans. While at Youngstown, Evans improved the sprints program and helped lead the women's team to two Horizon League Championships. In all, he coached four individual conference champions, and an NCAA regional qualifier. Evans' athletes set nine school records and seven conference records during his tenure.
As an athlete at Lehigh, Evans was a two-sport athlete for the Mountain Hawks in track and football. In track, he was an NCAA East Regional Championship qualifier and a two-time Patriot League Champion as a senior. He won the indoor Patriot League title in the 60m and the outdoor 200m, and he added a second-place finish in the 100m at the IC4A Championships in 2004. He holds five school records in track & field, and was named Lehigh's Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Year his senior year.
