Men's Cross Country Places Fifth At 2002 Heptagonal Championships

Van Cortlandt Park, NY - The men's cross country team placed fifth out of nine teams at the 2002 Heptagonal Championships Friday afternoon. The Bears had six runners place in the top 50 with sophomore Patrick Tarpy placing sixth overall. Dartmouth placed first with a team score of 56 while Columbia and Princeton rounded out the top three with scores of 63 ad 93 respectively. Brown finished with a score of 137.

Tarpy placed first for Brown and sixth overall with a time of 25:01.8. Sophomore Jeff Gaudette placed second for Brown and 25th overall with a time of 25:36.0. Junior Matthew Emond placed 32nd overall with a time of 25:44.0. Junior Brendan O'Keefe placed 36th overall with a time of 25:49.6. Senior Jeff Tomlinson placed 39th with a time of 25:52.2. Also placing in the top 50 was senior Chad Buechel, who finished 44th overall with a time of 26:00.4.

Senior Corey Kunz placed 63rd with a time of 26:28.1. Junior Erik Churchill placed 65th with a time of 26:29.8. Freshman Christopher Rigali placed 71st with a time of 26:34.8. Sophomore Erik Watz placed 79th with a 26:49.7. Junior Matthew Malachowski placed 88th with a time of 27:10.2. Junior Matthew Crimmin placed 98th with a time of 27:36.1.
