Philadelphia, PA-- The men's track and field team is in second place after six of twenty-one events at the Heptagonal Championships, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania. The Bears gathered many of their points today in the throwing events, with two members of the Brown team scoring in the shot put, two in the javelin and one in the hammer throw. Additionally, the Bears had two scorers in the 10,000m as well as one each in the long jump and pole vault.
The Bears had a very successful day in the throwing events. In the shot put, the team placed four in the top eight spots. Sophomore Mathieu Frankel (Newton, MA) placed third with a put of 52'9.25" while freshman David Howard (Columbia, MD) was fifth (49'3.75"), senior co-captain Jake Golenor (Redding, CA) seventh (48'3.50") and freshman Eric Wood (Eugene, OR) eighth (47'7.25").
In the javelin, junior Paul Rosiak (Wood-Ridge, NJ) and senior Hugh Murphy (Baldwin City, KS) took the top two spots with throws of 218'8" and 216'4", respectively. Rosiak's mark puts him at third on Brown's all-time outdoor top ten list. Murphy currently is in second from a throw earlier this season.
In the hammer competition, senior Kent Walls (Beckley, WV) placed fourth with a throw of 174'3".
On the field, junior Stephen Bernardi (Haddon Heights, NJ) placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 23'2". Junior Grant Bowen (Plainwell, MI) was fourth in the pole vault (15'7") while sophomore Brian Zubradt (Cortlandt Manor, NY) tied for sixth (15'1").
Sophomore Luke Renick (Warrenton, VA) qualified for the finals of both the 100m and 200m tomorrow with his times of 10.91 and 21.70 in the preliminaries today. Also qualifying for the 200m finals was junior Michael Pruzinsky (Wayne, NJ), who won the third heat in 21.36. Unfortunately, indoor Heps 500m champion Dallas Dissmore (Princeton, NJ) was disqualified in the 200m for false starting but did make the 400m finals with the second-seeded time after winning his heat in 47.13.
In the hurdles, sophomore Jamil McClintock (Plainfield, NJ) qualified for the finals of the 110HH after winning his heat in 14.42 seconds. Junior Christian Tabib (Valparaiso, IN) qualified for the 400mH finals after finishing second in the second heat with a time of 54.72.
Senior Jordan Kinley (Santa Rosa, CA) qualified for the finals of the 1500m after finishing fourth in his heat with a time of 3:52.66.
Competition resumes tomorrow with the decathlon 110HH at 9:45am.
