Bears Compete At Brown Springtime Invitational
Providence, RI-- The men's track and field team competed at the Brown Springtime Invitational this weekend. It was a good day on the field as the Bears won three out of the four throwing competitions and also garnered wins in the high jump, triple jump and 5000m.

The Bears took four of the top five spots in the shot put, with sophomore Mathieu Frankel (Newton, MA) and freshman David Howard (Columbia, MD) taking the top two spots with throws of 15.14m and 14.88m, respectively. Senior Kent Walls (Beckley, WV) won the discus competition with a throw of 51.20m/168', more than six meters ahead of second place. Junior Paul Rosiak (Wood-Ridge, NJ) won the javelin throw with a toss of 61.52m/201'10", also more than six meters ahead of second place.

On the field, senior Todd Kapostasy (Madison, OH) won the high jump with a leap of 1.91m/6'3.25". Another win came from sophomore Ikenna Achilihu (Monroe, LA) in the triple jump (15.23m/49'11.75").

Freshman Brian Schmidt (West Hempstead, NY) won the 5000m by nearly twenty seconds while sophomore Ryan Graddy (Del Mar, CA) finished third and freshman Steve Chaloner (Merrimack, NH) was fourth.

Sophomore Luke Renick (Warrenton, VA) took third in the 100m with a time of 11.10.

Senior Jordan Kinley (Santa Rosa, CA) placed second in the 800m with a time of 1:53.08. In the 1500m, the Bears finished in a pack in the third through seventh spots with no more than four seconds between them.

The meet today was the Bears' last tune-up competition before the Heptagonal Championships in Philadelphia next weekend. Heps will be hosted by the University of Pennsylvania and competition begins on Saturday, May 6.
