Men's Track Takes Top Spot In Brown Invitational; Buechel Breaks School Record

Providence, RI - The Brown men's track team took first place in its own Invitational at Brown Stadium on Saturday Apr. 12. The Bears finished the rainy day with a team score of 130, well a head of second place finisher Southern Connecticut with 96 points. Rounding out the top three was Harvard, which finished with a team score of 75.

Five athletes placed first and 14 placed in the top three in a well-rounded Brown effort.

Senior Chad Buechel (Upper St. Clair, PA) placed first in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:57.94, smashing the previous school record of 9:02.52.

Senior Brad Bowery (Hamden, CT) took the top spot in the pole vault, clearing 16'01.75. Sophomore Patrick Tarpy (Yarmouth, ME) placed first in the 1,500 meters, timing in at 3:50.50.

Also placing first for Brown were junior David Owen (Huntington, NY) and sophomore Jeff Gaudette (Biddeford, ME). Owen took the top spot in the 200 meters at 22.13 and Gaudette won the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:14.41, the fifth best all-time at Brown.

Brown continues action on Saturday Apr. 19 at the UConn Invitational.
