Bears Continue to Hit Top Marks on Second Day at Stanford Invite

On the second day of competition at the Stanford Invitational, Brown continued to rewrite the top ten boards.

Sophomore Sarah Groothuis (Aurora, NE) threw the discus for 141-9, Groothuis already ranks second all-time for Bruno in the event.

Junior Naja Ferjan (Ljubljana, Slovenia) doubled for the middle-distance squad, timing in at 2:10.70 in the 800-meter run and 4:27.84 in the 1500-meter. She moves up four spots to third all-time for Brown in the 1500. Senior co-captain Kelly Powell (East Patchogue, NY) also raced the two lap event, crossing in 2:13.84. The women's 4x400 relay team posted a final time of 3:47.86, just missing Brown's all-time list.

Senior Kent Walls (Beckley, WV), freshman David Howard (Columbia, MD), and sophomore Kai Brown (Bellevue, WA) all hit solid marks in the discus at 143-11, 138-03, and 128-09, respectively.

Late Friday night, juniors Chris Burke (Ann Arbor, MI) and Nick Neely (Portola Valley, CA) raced the 5,000-meter run. Burke was second in his section with a personal best 14:14.08, and Nick Neely also had a personal best, racing to a 14:25.34 in his heat. Burke's time ranks him seventh all-time.

Junior sprinter Michael Pruzinsky (Wayne, NJ) clocked 21.77 in the 200-meter dash, his first time in the event this year. Senior Dallas Dissmore (Princeton, NJ) also opened his outdoor season with 48.29 in the 400-meter dash.

Sophomore Jamil McClintock (Plainfield, NJ) qualified on Friday for the highly competitive 110-meter hurdle finals and on Saturday posted 14.67 in the event.

Sophomore Ikenna Achilihu (Monroe, LA) competed in the triple jump, hitting 48-2.5 feet.

The Bears return to competition next weekend in Storrs, CT at the University of Connecticut Invitational.
