Men's & Women's Track Compete at IC4As/ECACs
March 8, 2009
Boston, MA - While both the men and women's track & field squad had a number of athletes who qualified for the IC4A/ECAC Championships this weekend, Head Coach Craig Lake opted to only send a few athletes up to Boston University while the others rested up for the competitive outdoor season that is right around the corner.
On the men's side, junior Alex Stern (Potomac, MD) posted a personal best in the trials of the 800m with a 1:53.19, and unfortunately, Senior Sean O'Brien (Westborough, MA) was running a great race but got tripped up in the final lap of the 800m trials.
The men's distance medley relay ran a solid race with junior Colin Brett (Easton, PA) leading off in 3:05 for 1,200m. Senior Joseph Mastrangelo (Plainsboro, NJ) ran a 49 for the 400m leg, and freshman Tom Elinck (Merrick, NY) ran a 1:55 split and senior Stephen Chaloner (Merrimack, NH) ran a 4:14 anchor leg all alone.
Senior Matthew Jasmin (Middletown, NY) also had a great performance in the 55m hurdles to make it to the finals, but was unfortunately disqualified in the finals. Sophomore Jordan Maddocks (Framingham, MA) also jumped a solid 6'8.25 in the high jump as well.
On the women's side, sophomore Kesley Ramsey (Franklin Lakes, NJ) ran a 4:56.09 for her indoor personal best in the mile, and sophomore Michaeline Nelson (McLean, VA) had a big personal best of 4:56.45. While both earned a spot in the finals, they decided not to run and save themselves for the rigorous outdoor schedule.
Both Ramsey and Nelson were on the 4x800-meter relay, which had the top qualifying time going into finals. Freshman Bridget Black (Hanover, NH) led off the relay, as Nelson ran an enormous personal best 2:11.9 split, followed by freshman Roseanne Fleming (Westlake Village, CA) with a 2:12 leg, which was also a personal best, and Ramsey ran all by herself out front and anchored in 2:12.
The Brown throwers will compete at Northeastern on Saturday, March 21, as a small group will head out west to the Stanford Invitational from March 27-28.
