Men's Track Takes First At URI Mega Meet

Kingston, RI - The men's track team took first place at the University of Rhode Island Mega Meet on Saturday. The Bears finished the day with 158.50 points while Rhode Island finished second with 147.50 points. Rounding out the top five was New Hampshire with 141.00 points, SCSU with 105.00 and Quinnipiac with 44.00 points.
Junior David Owen (Huntington, NY) took first place in the 400 meters with a time of 48.70 and third in the 200 meters with a time of 22.55. Brown dominated the mile and the pole vault, placing the top three finishers in both events. Senior Brad Bowery (Hamden, CT) took first place in the pole vault, clearing 5.10 meters while teammates senior Aaron Salinger (Hamden, CT), freshman Mike Murray (Milford, MA) and junior Anthony Hutala (Valparaiso, IN) placed 2-4 respectively.
In the mile, sophomore Jeff Gaudette (Biddeford, ME) took first place with a time of 4:12.24 while junior Matt Crimmin (Acton, MA) and senior Chris Relf (Baldwin, NY) tied for second with a time of 4:18.24.
Senior Brandon Buchanan (Fairfax, VA) won the 55 meters with a time of 6.35. Senior Chad Buechel (Upper St. Clair, PA) took second in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:28.44. Junior Daveed Diggs (El Cerrito, CA) placed second in the 55 meter high hurdles with a time of 7.59.
In both the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relays, Brown took first place with times of 3:18.55 and 7:50.24 respectively
Brown continues action on Friday Feb. 14 at the Armory Collegiate in New York.
