The Brown Men's Track and Field team traveled to URI for the Sorlein Memorial Indoor Classic. The men placed fourth in a field of eleven teams. UCONN took first with 206.33 points, followed by URI (156.66), Providence College (99), and Brown (87). While the Bears failed to capture any first place finishes, Brown competitors managed to break into the top five in a few events.

In the sprints, sophomore Jamil McClintock's placed second in the 55 meter hurdles. Coming in seeded first, and winning the prelims, McClintock finished within .02 seconds of the first place finisher.

The middle distance and distance races were highlighted by the performances of three Brown sophomores. Sean O'Brien (Westborough, MA) placed third in the 1000 meter run, with a 2:28.72 run. Brian Schmidt (West Hempstead, NY) took third in the 1 mile run behind some stiff Providence College competition. Schmidt finished the mile in 4:16.99. Stephen Chaloner (Merrimack, NH) placed fourth in the 3000 meter run, with a 8:31.58 effort.

In the field, the Bears took four of the top nine places in the shot put. Sophomore David Howard (Columbia, MD) led the throw squad with his 15.15 meter throw, good for second place. Freshman Bryan Powlen (Kewenna, IN) followed with a 14.61 throw, to place fourth. Freshman Reginald Cole (Seattle, WA) placed fourth in the triple jump (14.16m).

The Bears will compete next at the annual Brown-Harvard-Cornell meet, to be held at Harvard (Cambridge, MA) on Saturday, January 27.
