Providence, RI - The men's indoor track and field team finished in fourth place at the Sorlein Invitational at the University of Rhode Island on Saturday. The Bears tallied a combined 71.50 points, as UConn came in first (161), URI in second (135.50) and Southern Connecticut State finished in third (107).
In the track events, sophomore Christian Escareno (Mount Prospect, IL) had a team-high third place finish in the one-mile run (4:19.96), as sophomore Scott Cary (Mt. Vernon, WA) came in at 4:35.96 for 20th. Freshman Brian Schilder (Milford, NJ) came in sixth in the 800m (1:57.70), and sophomore Alex Stern (Potomac, MD) earned seventh with a 1:57.72.
Junior Sean O'Brien (Westborough, MA) ran a 2:29.68 in the 1,000m run for fourth place, while sophomore John Loeser (Weston, CT) came in seventh (2:31.66), senior Nick Sarro (Chatham, NY) came in eighth (2:31.66), and sophomore Duriel Hardy (West Chester, PA) earned ninth (2:31.74). In the 55m hurdles, junior Matt Jasmin (Middletown, NY) had a solid fifth-place finish with a 7.93.
In the relays, Brown "A" ran a 3:29.14 in the 1,600m relay for fourth place, and then took third in the 3,200 relay with a 7:55.44. The high jump was highlighted by freshman Jordan Maddocks (Framingham, MA) sixth place finish (6-02.25), and sophomore Andrew Chapin (Redmond, WA) took seventh with a 6-00.50.
Rounding out Brown's scoring was senior Deshaun Mars (Brooklyn, NY) with a fourth-place finish in the long jump (22-04.25), sophomore Reginald Cole (Seattle, WA) in the triple jump (47.05) for second place, followed by Chapin's fifth place (44-11.50). In the weight throw, junior Eric Wood (Eugene, OR) earned third with a 53-05, and junior Tyler Prince (Daniels, WV) took seventh with a 50-00.75.
Up next,the Bears will compete at the Harvard Select Invitational on Jan. 26, in Cambridge, MA.
