Providence, RI - The Brown men's track & field team came in seventh place after competing at the URI Sorlein Invitational over the weekend. Senior Matt Jasmin earned Brown's only first-place finish, posting a time of 7.69 in the 55-meter hurdles for the title. UConn came in first place with a combined score of 169, followed by Rhode Island (121), Southern Connecticut State (72) and Providence College (67).
In the 55-meter dash, sophomore Marc Howland (Cleveland Heights, OH) earned fourth place with a 6.52, finishing behind Stonehill College's Torrey Price's 6.42 for first place. In the 500m run, junior Zack Malet (Haverford, PA) turned in a 1:08.90 for 12th place, as freshman Anthony Schurz (South Bend, IN) posted Brown's top time in the 1,000m run with a 2:33.93. Sean O'Brien (Westborough, MA) finished right behind with a 2:34.27 for eighth place, and Michael Elnick (Merrick, NY) came in 13th with a 2:36.99. Finishing off the running events was Brown's 4x400 relay that finished in sixth out of 13 teams overall with a time of 3:30.63.
In the field events, Tyler Prince (Daniels, WV) placed sixth with a 47-10.00 in the weight throw, while AJ Fitzgerald (Harrison, NY) placed 19th overall in the long jump with a leap of 18-06.00. The high jump was led by Jordan Maddocks' (Framingham, MA) 6-06.25 for seventh place, followed by Fitzgerald's 17th place finish with a 6-00.50. Brown's top shot put came from junior Bryan Powlen's (Kewanna, IN) throw of 50-11.00 for second place, followed by Bobby Yow's 38-00.75 for 17th place.
Brown is back in action at the Terrier Classic at Boston University from Jan. 23-24.
