PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown University men's track & field team is currently in sixth place with 16 points after the first day of the Ivy League Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Penn's Franklin Field.
Junior Owen Russell (Attleboro, Mass.) was runner-up in the hammer throw with a toss of 208-4, finishing behind only Adam Kelly of Princeton to earn Second Team All-Ivy honors. Michael Coppolino (Cumberland, R.I.) was fifth in the event with a throw of 183-3.
Jason Katz (Wyckoff, N.Y.) claimed third place in the long jump with a leap of 23-9.
On the track, senior Tosin Oyewole (Elkridge, Md.) was fifth in the preliminaries of 400 meters at 47.98 to qualify for the finals. Michael Wyman (Marion, Mass.) was sixth in the 1,500 prelims to move on to Sunday's final.
In the 800-meter preliminaries, Zachary Lanigan (Sydney, Australia) and Zack Emrich (North Kingstown, R.I.) placed third and fifth, respectively, at 1:50.56 and 1:50.77 as both qualified for the finals.
The Bears wrap up the Ivy Heptagonal Championships on Sunday in Philadelphia.
