PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown University men's and women's track & field teams had eight student-athletes qualify for the NCAA East Preliminary Championship round, announced by the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track & Field Selection Committee. The event will take place May 25-27 at the University of Kentucky Outdoor Track and Field Facility in Lexington, Kentucky.
The preliminary rounds are divided into two regions, East and West. The top 12 finishers of each region will earn a trip to the NCAA National Championships on June 7-10 in Eugene, Ore.
The men's side had five qualifiers, including junior Zack Emrich (North Kingstown, R.I.) in the 800 meters, who was runner-up at the Ivy League championships for Second Team All-Ivy honors. Rookie Zachary Lanigan (Sydney, Australia) also earned a spot in the event.
In the field, senior Mark Buda (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Owen Russell (Attleboro, Mass.) earned consecutive bids in the javelin and hammer, respectively. Jason Katz (Wyckoff, N.Y.) qualified in the triple jump to round out the men's participants.
For the women, Josie Natrasevschi (Fort Collins, Colo.) qualified in the discus and is fresh off an Ivy League title in the event at the Heptagonal Championships. Senior Shanelle DeJournett (Knoxville, Tenn.) qualified in the high jump for the second straight year, while junior Carly Paul (Fort Collins, Colo.) will join her in the event this time around.
