
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Brown University men's track & field team is currently in sixth place with 14 points after the opening day of the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships on Saturday at Yale's Cuyler Field & Dwyer Track.
Senior Mark Buda (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was runner-up in the javelin as he used his opening throw for a personal-best toss of 221-3, coming up just short of Harvard's Brett Henderson, who took first at 223-6.
Sophomore Owen Russell (Attleboro, Mass.) placed third overall in the hammer throw, using his third attempt for a toss of 206-6.
On the track, senior Martin Martinez (Waukegan, Ill.) qualified for the finals of the 1,500 meters as he placed fifth in the preliminaries at 3:51.07.
Junior Zack Emrich (North Kingstown, R.I.) and rookie Zachary Lanigan (Sydney, Australia) placed second and sixth in the prelims of the 800 meters in times of 1:52.73 and 1:53.51 to advance to Sunday's final.
The Bears will wrap up the Ivy Heptagonal Championships on Sunday in New Haven.
