PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown University track & field teams posted several impressive results as the Bears traveled to the Princeton Sam Howell Invitational, UNH Invitational and Rider Invitational over the weekend.
Princeton Sam Howell Invitational
Rookie Zachary Lanigan (Sydney, Australia) turned in a fifth-place finish out of 28 runners in the 800 meters as he crossed in a time of 1:51.74. Senior Martin Martinez (Waukegan, Ill.) was fourth out of 36 runners in the 1,500 meters, as he finished in a time of 3:50.69.
Taylor Worthy (Medford, N.Y.) paced the women's side with a 14th-place finish in the 800 meters in a time of 2:14.30
On the track, Tosin Oyewole (Elkridge, Md.) cruised to a first-place finish in the 400 meters. He also teamed up with Noah Korotzer (Palos Verdes, Calif.), Nik Zemis (New Philadelphia, Ohio) and Philip Batler (Newton, Mass.) for a first-place finish in the 4x100 relay.
Paul Touma (Atherton, Calif.) and Michael Coppolino (Cumberland, R.I.) were victorious in the triple jump and hammer, respectively, and Aaron Comery (Coventry, R.I.) added a second-place showing in the shot put.
On the women's side, rookie Kennedy Kerr (West Hempstead, N.Y.) secured first place in the 100 meters and teamed with Zion Lewis (Canton, Ga.), May Stern (Providence, R.I.) and Mikela Waldman (San Fransisco, Calif.) for a first-place finish in the 4x100 relay.
In addition, Calla Isaac (Sherwood Park, Alberta), Liana Kramer (McLean, Va.), Waldman, Gwenyth Winship ran to a first-place performance in the 4x400 meter relay.
Lewis added another first-place finish in the field as she won the triple jump, while Josie Natrasevschi (Fort Collins, Colo.) captured first place in the discus.
Ryan Laudermilk (Riverside, Calif.) was victorious in the high jump as he topped the field of 19 with a cleared height of 6-06.25. Jason Katz (Wyckoff, N.Y.) and Taylor Alarcon (Wilmette, Ill.) went first and second, respectively, in the triple jump with leaps of 51-09.75 and 50-03.25. Mark Buda (Pittsburgh, Pa.) won the javelin with a toss of 207-7.
Rachel McMahon and Carly Paul (Fort Collins, Colo.) went one-two in the long jump with leaps of 19-04.25 and 19-04.00. Shanelle DeJournett (Knoxville, Tenn.) turned in a second-place performance in the high jump with a cleared height of 5-5.
The Brown track and field teams will be back in action on Saturday when they host the Ocean State Invitational at Brown Stadium.
