PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Evan Weinstock (Las Vegas, Nev.) and junior Henry Tufnell (Cirencester, England) of the Brown men's track & field team are set to compete at the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships this week (June 11-14) at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. The duo will open competition on Wednesday, with Weinstock in day one of the decathlon and Tufnell in the semifinals of the 800 meters.
ESPN3 will stream live coverage of the event on Wednesday and Thursday, and there will be a live telecast of the national championship finals on Friday (7:30 p.m. EST) and Saturday (5 p.m. EST).
Weinstock earned one of the 24 direct spots to the national meet in the decathlon since the event is not held at the regional championships. The senior most recently captured his third league decathlon title at the 2014 Ivy Heptagonal Championships, racking up 7,381 points to just miss a personal record. Weinstock previously won league titles in 2011 and 2013 for a trio of All-Ivy First Team selections. Weinstock will compete in the first five events of the decathlon on Wednesday, starting with the 100 meters (2:30 p.m. EST).
Tufnell qualified for the national championship after an impressive stint at the NCAA Regionals in Jacksonville. Despite seeded last in the 48th spot, Tufnell set a pair of personal records to earn one of the region's 12 tickets to Eugene. After a standout run in the preliminary round, Tufnell finished 10th overall in the quarterfinals with a personal-best time of 1:47.99, marking the second-best time in program history. Tufnell will run the semifinals of the 800 meters on Wednesday (7:30 p.m. EST).
