PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Heidi Caldwell (Hanover, N.H.) set a school record at the Stanford Invitational, while Victoria Buhr (Cheboygan, Mich.) led the Brown track & field team at the Sam Howell Invite, as the Bears competed at a pair of meets over the weekend.
Caldwell placed 22nd overall in the 5,000 meters among top competition at the Stanford Invitational on Friday, crossing the finish line in a time of 16:05.84 to break her own school record of 16:06.00 set in 2012.
At the Princeton Sam Howell Invite, Buhr claimed the discus title with a winning toss of 156-09, while sophomore Kebbeh Darpolor (Pecos, Texas) was third in the event at 143-08. Buhr also placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 48-04.50
Junior Alex Stanton (Medfield, Mass.) placed third overall in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking in at 1:02.29, while sophomore Lydia Davenport (New York, N.Y.) also took third in the 3,000 meters in a time of 10:07.33.
Freshman Emmaline Suchland (Seattle, Wash.) placed fifth in the 100 meters, crossing the line in a time of 12.22.
Back in the field, senior Brienna Crimmins (Sacramento, Calif.) was sixth in the long jump with a leap of 17-07.00, while sophomore Rachel Van Metre (Swarthmore, Pa.) was fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 38-04.75.
Freshman Ellie Gravitte (Ridgefield, Conn.) followed last week's javelin victory with a fifth-place finish at 135-02, while junior Heather Vermillion (Visalia, Calif.) was fourth in the hammer throw at 176-03.
On the men's side, Ryan Kelly (Greenwich, Conn.) and Ajani Brown (Frisco, Texas) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 400 meters with times of 48.59 and 48.80. Brown also took sixth in the 200 meters in a time of 22.01.
Sophomore Ned Willig (Phoenixville, Pa.) turned in a third-place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 1:51.86, while senior Henry Tuffnel (Cirencester, England) took seventh at 1:52.54.
Junior Peter Rhodes (Atlanta, Ga.) took eighth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.19.
In addition, the Bears' 4x100 meter relay team was runner-up with a time of 41.72.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, April 12 when they host the Brown Invitational at Brown Stadium.
