Track & Field Hosts Brown Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – In the final week of preparation before the New England Championships, the Brown indoor track & field teams hosted the Brown Invitational in a non-scoring meet Saturday afternoon.

For the women, junior Alex Stanton (Medfield, Mass.) took first in the 400 meters with an ECAC-qualifying time of 57.59, while freshman Taylor Worthy (Medfield, Mass.) also qualified for this ECAC Championships in the 1,000 meters as she won the event in a time of 2:53.29.

In the field, sophomore Morayo Akande (Robinson, Ill.) captured the high jump with an ECAC-qualifying cleared height of 5-7. Senior Victoria Buhr (Cheboygan, Mich.) and sophomore Kebbeh Darpolor (Pecos, Texas) also earned ECAC-qualifying wins in the shot put and weight throw, respectively, with tosses of 46-06.00 and 56-02.50.

The Bears also received first-place finishes from Emmaline Suchland (60m, 7.76), Sasha Teninty (500m, 1:17.67), Lily Harrington (mile, 5:04.14), Alexandra Conway (3,000m, 10:30.90), Najatee McNeil (60MH, 8.99) and Uzoamaka Okoro (triple jump, 38-08.25).

On the men's side, sophomore Ryan Kelly (Greenwich, Conn.) and senior Colin Savage (Liverpool, N.Y.) claimed first-place finishes in the 400 meters and 1,000 meters, respectively, in IC4A-qualifying times of 49.55 and 2:27.18.

The Bears also picked up a pair of IC4A-caliber victories from junior Courtland Clavette (Asheville, N.C.) and Matthew O'Hara (Riverside, Calif.) in the shot put and weight throw, respectively, with tosses of 54-09.50 and 57-05.75.

Additionally, Brown earned top finishes from Fredrick Rhine (60m, 7.19), Christopher Garzia (60MH, 8.42), Sean Igelman (pole vault, 15-03.00), Nkosi Jones (long jump, 22-03.75) and Taylor Alarcon (triple jump, 47-01.00).

The Bears return to action on Sunday, Feb. 23 when they compete at the New England Championships in Cambridge, Mass.
