KINGSTON, R.I. – The Brown men's indoor track & field team earned six top-three finishes as the Bears placed third overall at the Rhode Island Coaches Invitational on Saturday at Mackel Fieldhouse.
The Bears racked up 80 points to finish behind Connecticut (220) and host URI (98.75), but ahead of Providence (51), Stonehill (49), Boston University (46), New Hampshire (43), Central Connecticut (32), UMass-Lowell (25.5) and Bryant (0.75).
On the track, sophomore Will Conway (Potomac, Md.) placed third overall in the 1,000 meters, crossing the finish line in a time of 2:32.20.
The Bears' 4x400 meter relay team of junior Fredrick Rhine (Houston, Texas), freshman Raul Green (Hopatcong, N.J.), senior Evan Weinstock (Las Vegas, Nev.) and junior Peter Rhodes (Atlanta, Ga.) placed third in a time of 3:26.73.
Freshman Nkosi Jones was runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 22-05.00, while fellow rookie Taylor Alarcon (Wilmette, Ill.) placed third in the triple jump with an IC4A-qualifying leap of 47-05.25.
Junior Courtland Clavette (Asheville, N.C.) posted a runner-up finish in the shot put with a toss of 52-06.75 to qualify for the IC4A Championships, while sophomore Matthew O'Hara (Riverside, Calif.) took third with an IC4A-qualifying toss of 51-11.25.
The Bears return to action Feb. 7-8 at the Boston University Valentine's Invitational.
