PROVIDENCE, R.I. – John Spooney (Northfield, Ohio) picked up three victories as the Brown men's track & field team hosted the Brown Invitational with over 1,300 athletes competing over the weekend at Brown Stadium.
"It's always exciting to compete at Brown Stadium, and this was the largest meet Brown has hosted in many years," said Tim Springfield, Interim Director of Track and Field. "As they have all year, John Spooney and Lacey Craker led the team, each winning multiple events. We're moving into the heart of our season, and today was a strong step forward."
Spooney won three events on the day as he finished first in the finals of the 100 meters and 200 meters at 10.65 and 21.66, respectively. He also ran a leg on the winning 4x100 meter relay team that took first in a time of 41.62.
Courtland Clavette (Asheville, N.C.) continued to dominate in the shot put as he placed first overall with a toss of 52-06.00. In the long jump, Okuoma Idah (Palos Verdes, Calif.) topped the field of 22 jumpers with a winning leap of 23-04.75.
Sean Igelman (Medford, Ore.) placed second overall in the pole vault with a cleared height of 16-00.75, while on the track, Colin Savage (Liverpool, N.Y.) was runner up in the 800 meters in a time of 1:53.23.
Zach Keefer also added a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles as he crossed the finish line in a time of 53.79, while Benjamin Stephenson (Austin, Texas) was second overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 9:51.96.
The Bears return to action on Friday, April 19 when they take part in the Larry Ellis Invitational on the campus of Princeton University.
