Trio of throwers lead track & field at Bridgewater Invite

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – A trio of Bears claimed top finishes as the Brown University outdoor track & field team sent a select group of throwers to the Bridgewater State Invitational on Saturday in a non-scoring meet at the Swenson Turf Track.

Senior Lacey Cracker (Baraboo, Wis.) claimed first place in the hammer throw with a winning toss of 58.82m, while sophomore Heather Vermillion (Visalia, Calif.) took fourth at 48.47m.

Junior Niina Al-Hassan (Secaucus, N.J.) claimed the javelin with a throw of 42.00m, while junior Holleigh Bergstrom (Eugene, Ore.) added a third-place finish at 38.98m.

On the men's side, sophomore Courtland Clavette (Asheville, N.C.) won the shot put as he topped the field of 42 throwers with a personal-best toss of 15.96m.

In the hammer throw, freshman Matthew O'Hara (Riverside, Calif.) was fourth overall with a toss of 43.82m, while fellow rookie Phuong Truong (Tacoma, Wash.) took eighth at 38.59m.

Back on the women's side, junior Victoria Buhr (Sheboygan, Mich.) and Vermillion finished fifth and sixth in the shot put, respectively, with tosses of 12.13m and 11.87m.

The Bears return to action on March 27-28 as several decathletes take part in the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas.
