New York, NY- The Brown University men's track & field team earned seventh place with 28 points at the 2011 Ivy League Indoor Heptagonal Championship. The Bears' 4x400m relay team comprised of freshman Samuel Howard, sophomore Nathan Elder, freshman Ajani Brown and freshman John Spooney garnered Second Team All-Ivy honors after an outstanding second place finish with a time of 3:14.26 which broke a Brown University record.
Spooney picked up sixth place in the 60m dash in a swift 6.98 seconds, and Elder earned fifth place in the 500m dash with a time of 1:03.76. Sophomore Erik Berg ran the 1,000m in 2:25.27 for fifth place, and sophomore Kevin Cooper placed eighth in the one-mile run with a 4:15.07.
Junior Dan Lowry was the Bears' top finisher in the 3,000m run, earning seventh place with an 8:11.44. Senior Brian Schilder followed in 15th place (8:22.06) and sophomore Conor Grogan came in 20th with an 8:31.61. In the 5000m run, senior Christian Escareno finished 20th with a 15:23.92 and sophomore Austin Snyder earned 21st with a 15:31.67.
Brown's distance medley relay of Cooper, senior Marc Howland, junior Thomas Elnick, and Lowry came in fourth place with a 9:52.07.
In the field events, sophomore Daniel Smith tossed a 54-01.75 in the shot put for fourth place and earning third place in the men's heptathlon was freshman Evan Weinstock with a total of 4,893 points.
Senior AJ Fitzgerald came in ninth in the high jump with a height of 6-02.75 (1.90m), and sophomore Kenneth Thompson picked up sixth place in the triple jump with a 46-09.50 (14.26m). Following behind Thompson was freshman Jonathan Diejuste with a 45-02.25 (13.77m) to earn 11th.
The Bears will now compete in the IC4A/ECAC Championship's in Boston on March 5-6.
