Bears Finish Seventh at NYRR Saturday Night at The Armory

New York, NY- The Brown University men's track & field team finished in seventh in the 12-team field at the NYRR Saturday Night at The Armory with 57 points. Daniel Smith brought home the Bears' only title in the field, winning the shot put with a throw of 16.88m, and John Spooney garnered the 200m dash title in 21.94 seconds.

Virginia won the meet with a 98.50. followed by Army with 89 points, and Albany (81). For complete results, click HERE.

Spooney also competed in the 60m dash for the Bears yesterday and placed third with a time of 6.91 seconds. Marc Howland followed close behind with a 10th place time of 22.87 seconds.

In the 400m dash, Samuel Howard finished fourth in 49.49 seconds, and Ajani Brown ran it in 50.86 to place 12th.

Kevin Cooper finished in second in the 1,000m run (2:26.56) and Dan Lowry was Brown's top one-mile finisher with a 4:09.26 to earn sixth. Anthony Schurz also finished in ninth in the one-mile with a 4:13.22 and Thomas Elnick came in 16th with a 4:17.02.

Erik Berg finished 13th overall in the 3,000m run (8:35.94) and the 4x400m relay team of Matt Bevil, Nathan Elder, Samuel Howard and Zach Keefer came in sixth with a 3:21.61.

Brown's Jonathan Diejuste was Brown's top long jumper with a sixth place distance of 6.36m, and Kenneth Thompson garnered sixth in the triple jump (13.89).

The Bears are back in action next weekend at the USATF New England Championships, and will then compete at the Ivy League Indoor Heptagonal Championships on Feb. 26,
