Princeton, NJ- The Brown men's track & field team won two events at the Princeton Elite Meet on Saturday, May 1 at Weaver Stadium. While not all the track & field athletes competed in this event, it was the team's final tune-up before competing at the 2010 Ivy League Heptagonal Championship May 8-9 at Princeton.
Senior Reginald Cole (Seattle, WA) brought home the triple jump title with a solid 49-03, while senior Bryan Powlen (Kewanna, IN) earned the discus throw title with a dominating toss of 180-01. Powlen also posted a third place toss of 53-08.25 in the shot put yesterday afternoon.
In the running events, Brown sophomore Dan Lowry (Plymouth Meeting, MA) finished 10th in the 1,500m run with a time of 3:58.61, and senior Alex Stern (Potomac, MD) followed with an 11th place finish with a 3:58.66.
Freshman Nathan Elder (Quincy, IL) finished in 12th in the 400m dash (49.29) and senior Mike Mazerik (Poland, OH)crossed the finish line of the 100m dash in 11.03 seconds to place fifth. Senior Zach Malet (Haverford, PA) finished fifth in the 800m run with a time of 1:52.91 and sophomore Michael Elnick (Merrick, NY) followed with a time of 1:55.08 for ninth.
Freshman Daniel Smith (Saco, ME) finished just behind Powlen in the shot put with a fifth place throw of 53-08.25, and senior Andrew Chapin (Redmond, WA) finished right behind Cole in the triple jump to come in second with a 49-01.75. Junior Jordan Maddocks (Framingham, MA) finished in fourth in the high jump with a height of 6-06.25. Also, senior Brian Giese (Medford, WI) came in fifth place in the hammer throw with a 181-05.
Brown will now prepare for the 2010 Ivy League Heptagonal Championships hosted at Princeton University May 8-9.
