Brown Men’s Track & Field Competes at UConn Invitational

Storrs, Conn. – The Brown University men's track & field team competed at the UConn Invitational Track Meet over the weekend. The Bears posted some solid scores, while both Bryan Powlen and Jordan Maddocks brought home titles.

Powlen dominated the discus throw and earned the title with a 178-04, and freshman teammate Daniel Smith came in eighth with a 139-11. The two also competed in the shot put, with Powlen earning third with a 53-11.00 and Smith finished in fifth with a 48-04.50. Also earning a title was junior Jordan Maddocks in the high jump with a 6-08.25.

In the hammer throw, senior Brian Giese finished fourth with a 169-04, and Bobby Yow placed fifth in the javelin throw with a 184-10. Freshman Kenneth Thompson earned fourth place in the triple jump with a 43-02.25.

Senior Colin Brett had a solid performance in the 3,000m steeplechase with a 9:55.34 for third place, and senior Mike Mazerik finished second overall in the 100m dash with a 10.87. Also earning second place was freshman Nathan Elder with a 1:54.70 in the 800m run. Kevin Cooper followed behind with an eighth place finish in 2:01.33.
