Track & Field Competes at Harvard Invitational

The Brown University men's and women's track & field team competed at the Harvard Invitational at the Gordon Indoor Track and Tennis Center this weekend.  Both teams had strong performances, which included titles earned by Brynn Smith and Jasmine Chukwueke. 

On the men's side, Bryan Powlen earned Brown's highest score with a second place finish in the shot put.  His 16.50m qualified for the IC4A Championship. Mike Mazerik turned in a third place finish in the 60m dash with a 7.12 and also secured fifth place in the 200m dash with a 23.09. Nathan Elder also recorded a third-place mark in the 500m dash with a time of 1:06.71. 

Zachary Bahr finished in fifth place in the weight throw with a toss of 16.35m, and Daniel Smith came in seventh in the shot put with a 14.18m throw. 

The women's squad had solid day, as Brynn Smith qualified for the ECAC Championship in both the weight throw and shot put.  Smith posted a fifth-place toss of 16.63m and earned the shot put title with a 15.11m throw. 

Jasmine Chukwueke brought home first place for the Bears in the 500m dash with a time of 1:17.21, as Lucy Higgins followed with a second place time of 1:17.25.  Higgins also came in fourth place in the 200m dash with a 26.41. 

Susan Scavone finished in second place in the 60m hurdles with a 9.15, and Danielle Grunloh also posted a second place in the shot put with a 13.95 to qualify for the ECACs.  Victoria Buhr followed behind Grunloh in the shot put with a fourth place distance of 13.01m. 

Brown's 4x440-yard relay team also garnered a second place finish with a time of 3:32.73. 

The Bears are back in action next weekend at Gordon Track at the Harvard Select Meet.
