Ithaca, NY - Brown senior Jamie Cerretani pulled off a tremendous double on Tuesday, October 21, winning the singles crown and teaming with junior Adil Shamasdin for the doubles title on the final day of the 2003 Omni Hotels ITA Northeast Regional at Cornell's Reis Tennis Center.
In what proved to be a tiring and exhilirating day, Cerretani won a pair of singles contests and a doubles match to earn automatic bids to the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships at the University of Michigan from Nov. 6-9.
Cerretani opened the morning with a 6-4, 6-2 semifinal win over No. 10 seed Josef Novotny of UMBC. He claimed the title later in the afternoon with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over No. 4 seed Cliff Nguyen of Harvard in the championship match. The second-seeded Cerretani did not drop a set during the tournament. Both Cerretani and Nguyen earn automatic bids to the NCAA championships.
Cerretani also teammed with Shamasdin to rout the Harvard doubles team of George Turner and Jason Beren in the finals, 8-2. The Brown duo defeated four seeded teams to capture the title. Cerretani and Shamasdin also earn an automatic slot in the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championship field.
