Shamasdin and Charm Advance to Round of 16 in NCAA Doubles Action

COLLEGE STATION, TX - Senior co-captain Adil Shamasdin (Pickering, ONT), ranked 86th in the nation, was defeated by the third-ranked player in the contry, Jesse Witten, of Kentucky, in the Round of 32 of the NCAA Singles Tournament on Thursday afternoon at Texas A&M University. Shamasdin lost, 6-2, 6-2. However, later in the day, he combined with doubles partner, junior Philip Charm (Concord, MA) to win their first round match in the NCAA Doubles Tournament.
Ranked 47th in the country, Shamasdin and Charm easily handled the 12th-ranked team in the nation, Scott Brown and Jason Pinsky of Vanderbilt. The duo, which was ranked as high as #17 in the country this season, won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. It marked the second straight year that Shamasdin has advanced in NCAA Doubles action, teaming with Jamie Cerretani '04 in last year's NCAA Tournament.
Shamasdin and Charm will face #45 Marco Born and Andreas Siljestrom of Middle Tennessee. Born and Siljestrom are coming off a First Round upset win over Ohio State's Scott Green and Ross Wilson, the fourth-seeded pair in the Tournament.
