Senior Adil Shamasdin (Pickering, ONT) and junior Philip Charm (Concord, MA) have been selected to compete individually in the 2005 NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament, which will be held in College Station, Texas, May 25th-May 30th. Shamasdin and Charm received an automatic bid into the doubles championships, while Shamasdin earned an automatic bid into the singles championships. With those two selections, it marks the first time ever in Brown men's tennis history, that the Bears will be represented in all three championships; team, singles, and doubles.
Brown's doubles pair of Shamasdin and Charm have been ranked as high as #17 in the nation this year, and have a 10-2 doubles record for the season, played all at #1 doubles. Highlighting their season was a 9-7 win over the fourth-ranked doubles pair in the nation at #1 doubles in Brown's 5-2 victory over New Mexico.
In addition, Shamasdin and Charm are a combined 55-14 in doubles this season. Shamasdin's 113 career doubles wins ranks second to former doubles partner Jamie Cerretani '04 (120), with whom Shamasdin appeared in last year's doubles NCAA championships. Shamasdin and Cerretani are currently tied for the school record in overall wins with 213 combined wins.
Shamasdin, who earned first team All-Ivy honors in singles action, also has 24 singles wins this year, which includes a two-set victory over the seventh-ranked player in the nation at #1 singles in Brown's 5-2 win over Old Dominion. Shamasdin has been ranked as high as #74 in the nation this year, and is currently third on Brown's all-time singles wins list with 100 wins, behind Chris Drake '03 (104) and Tim Donovan '89 (115).
Shamasdin and Charm will look to help lead Brown this Saturday, May 14th, when the Bears face Ohio State in the first round of the NCAA Men's Tennis Championships.
