Senior Jamie Cerretani (Reading, MA) and junior Adil Shamasdin (Pickering, Ont.) have been selected to compete individually in the 2004 NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament, which will be held in Tulsa, Oklahoma, May 26th-May 31st. Cerretani and Shamasdin will compete in the doubles championships, while Cerretani will also compete in the singles championships.
Brown's top doubles pair of Cerretani and Shamasdin have been ranked as high as #7 in the nation this year, and have a 22-2 doubles record for the season. The duo captured the Omni Northeast Regional Doubles Championships this past fall, earning a berth in the National Indoors held at the University of Michigan in November. There, the doubles pair took out two top 10 teams, and advanced to the consolation finals.
In addition, Cerretani and Shamasdin are a combined 67-11 in doubles this season. Cerretani has become Brown's all-time leader in wins with 212, including a school-record 119 doubles victories. Shamasdin is currently 5th on Brown's all-time list with 160 wins, including 85 doubles wins, and, with another year of competition, should challenge Cerratani's all-time mark.
Cerretani also has 22 singles wins this year, which includes a run to the Omni Regional Singles title this past fall. He advanced to the National Indoor Championship in singles as well, where he took down #22 Divan Coetzee 6-1, 6-1, in an impressive performance. Cerretani is third on Brown's All-Time Singles wins list with 93 wins, behind Chris Drake '93 (104) and Tim Donavan '89 (115).
