Ithaca, NY - Brown freshman Ben Brier (Dartmouth, MA) pulled out a grueling three-set match at number 5 singles to capture the deciding point and lead the Bears to a 4-3 victory over Cornell Friday afternoon at the Reis Tennis Center.
After splitting two sets, Brier broke service at 4-3 to pull out a dramatic 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 victory.
Brown senior Chris Wolfe (Barrington, RI) upset defending Ivy League Player of the Year Mike Halperin at number one singles, 6-1, 6-4, sending Halperin to his first Ivy League loss in over two years. Junior Nick Malone (Greystrokes, Ireland) was a 6-1, 6-4 winner at second singles and freshman Jamie Cerretani (Reading, MA) earned a 7-5, 6-1 at third singles.
Malone and Cerretani earned an 8-5 victory at number one doubles. The Bears are now 10-8 overall and 2-2 in the Ivy League.
