FLUSHING, NY - In a rematch of last year's Ivy League Title clinching victory over Harvard, the Brown men's tennis team (3-0), seeded second in the ECAC Championship, advanced to Monday's finals, with a 4-3 victory over third-seeded Harvard in the semi-finals.
After dropping the doubles point to Cornell on Saturday, Brown bounced back to take the doubles point against the Crimson with wins at #1 and #2 doubles. Senior Philip Charm (Concord, MA) and junior Dan Hanegby (Herzliva, Israel) posted an 8-4 win at #1, while junior Eric Thomas (Cincinnati, OH) and sophomore Saurabh Kohli (Colaba, Mumbai, India) earned an 8-6 victory at #2.
The two teams split the singles matches, 3-3, including three-set matches at the top three spots. Hanegby led off at #1 with a 7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-3 win, while Charm posted a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 win at #3. Kohli was Brown's other victor, winning 6-3, 6-3 at #4.
After narrowly missing the Championship match last season, the Bears will face fourth-seeded Penn Monday morning at 9:00 for the ECAC Championship. Penn advanced after taking out top-seeded Penn State, 5-2, in the other semi-final.
