Providence, RI - The 50th ranked Brown men's tennis team completed its regular season with a 5-2 victory over Yale at the Erickson Athletic Complex. The win lifts the Bears to an 18-5 Spring mark, 20-6 overall, and a second place finish in the Ivy standings with a 6-1 mark.
Brown cruised to victory in the doubles competition, sweeping all three matches. Senior Kris Goddard teamed with sophomore Zachary Pasanen for an 8-6 win at number one, followed by the Bears second doubles team of seniors Jamie Cerretani and Ben Brier, who earned an 8-1 win. At third doubles, juniors Adil Shamasdin and Nicholas Goldberg combined for an 8-2 victory.
The Bears captured four of six singles matches, ironically with both of its seniors in the lineup falling to the Bulldogs. Cerretani, one of the top players in the nation, fell to the Elis by a 6-1, 6-2 margin at number one singles. Goldberg picked up the Bears with a hard-fought 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 win at number two, followed by Shamasdin, a solid 6-4, 6-4 winner at number three.
Freshman Eric Thomas continued his outstanding play with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at number four, but Brier stumbled at number five, dropping a 6-3, 6-1 decision. Pasanen was a 6-3, 7-6 winner at sixth singles for the Bears.
