#33 South Alabama Defeats #53 Bears, 4-2, at Blue/Gray Classic

MONTGOMERY, AL - The #53 Brown men's tennis team (13-5) dropped its third straight match to a ranked opponent, falling, 4-2, to #33 South Alabama in the Consolation Round of the Blue/Gray Tennis Classic, held in Montgomery, AL.

Brown started the match by taking the doubles point with wins at #1 and #3. The team of senior Phil Charm (Concord, MA) and freshman Chris Lee (Sudbury, MA) picked up an 8-5 win at #1 to improve to 2-0 on the season. At #3 the duo of junior Eric Thomas (Cincinnati, OH) and freshman Sam Garland (Bradenton, FL) gave Brown the point with a dominating, 8-1, win at #3, as they improved to 7-0 in doubles play.

In singles action, South Alabama went up 2-1 with wins at #1 and #2, as junior Dan Hanegby (Herzliya, Israel) and Charm both dropped their matches. Thomas picked up a hard-fought three-set win at #3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, but sophomore Saurabh Kohli (Colaba, Mumbai, India) and Lee both dropped three-set matches at #4 and #5, respectively, as South Alabama was able to pull out the win.

The Bears continue action on Sunday, March 26th, when they travel to #22 Virginia Commonwealth, which finished as a finalist at the Blue/Gray Classic, for a 1:00 p.m. match.
