#63 Bears Win Tight Match with #39 NC State, 4-3

MONTGOMERY, AL - The #63 Brown men's tennis team (11-4) earned a 4-3 win over #39 NC State, finishing the Blue/Gray Classic with a 2-1 record, while avenging this season's earlier loss (4-3) to the Wolfpack. Sophomore Eric Thomas (Cincinnati, OH) clinched the win for Brown, winning in dominating fashion, 6-1, in the third and decisive set at #3 singles.

Brown earned the doubles point with wins at #1 and #3 doubles as seniors Adil Shamasdin (Pickering, ONT) and Nicholas Goldberg (Albuquerque, NM) posted an 8-4 win at #1. At #3 doubles, it was juniors Philip Charm (Concord, MA) and Richard Moss (Johannesburg, South Africa) picked up an 8-5 win.

In singles action, the two teams split the three matches, with Brown winning the top three spots. Third singles was the final match to finish and with the match tied at 3-3, Thomas earned the 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-1 win for the Brown victory. The Bears' other singles wins came at #1, where Shamasdin earned a 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 win, and at #2, where Goldberg earned a 6-2, 7-5 victory.

The Bears continue action Saturday, March 19, when they host Hofstra (10:00 a.m.) and Boston College (3:00 p.m.) at the Pizzitola Center Courts.
