#68 Bears Hand #63 Virginia Tech 5-2 Loss

BLACKSBURG, VA - The #68 Brown men's tennis team (9-3) earned a 5-2 victory over #63 Virginia Tech on Tuesday afternoon, completing a successful Southern Swing, during which they went 2-1 against some tough competition. Highlighting the Virginia Tech match was a win at #1 doubles. Senior Adil Shamasdin (Pickering, ONT) and junior Philip Charm (Concord, MA) upset Virginia Tech's Arvid Puranen and Stephane Rod, ranked #31 in the nation, with an 8-6 victory.

Brown claimed the doubles point to start the day with a win at #2 doubles in addition to the victory at #1. Freshman Saurabh Kohli (Colaba, Mumbai, India) and sophomore Eric Thomas (Cincinnati, OH) earned an 8-2 win at #2 for the point.

In singles action, Brown took four of the six matches for the final, 5-2. Shamasdin won at #1, 6-4, 6-2, while senior Nicholas Goldberg (Albuquerque, NM) picked up a 6-4, 7-6 win at #3. Junior Richard Moss (Johannesburg, South Africa) earned a 7-5, 1-6, 6-1 win at #4, while Charm picked up a 7-6, 2-6, 6-3 win at #6 to close out the match.

The Bears continue action on Friday, March 4th, when they host Old Dominion in a 4:00 match.
