Bears Sweep Boston College & Buffalo

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown men's tennis team (5-1) opened up its spring schedule on Saturday, January 21st, and earned two victories, defeating Boston College, 6-1, in a morning match, before earning a 7-0 shutout over Buffalo in the afternoon. Senior Philip Charm (Concord, MA) led the way with three totals wins for Brown.

Against Boston College, the Bears picked up the doubles point with wins at #1 and #3, as Charm and junior Dan Hanegby (Herzliya, Israel) picked up an 8-2 win at #1 and junior Eric Thomas (Cincinnati, OH) and freshman Sam Garland (Bradenton, FL) earned an 8-4 win at #3.

Brown lost the first singles match in three sets, but rebounded to take the next five matches, all in straight sets, in earning the 6-1 victory over the Eagles. Thomas won at #2, 6-2, 6-0, while Charm earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at #3. Sophomore Saurabh Kohli (Colaba, Mumbai, India) posted a 6-4, 6-3 win at #4, while freshman Chris Lee (Sudbury, MA) won at #5 by the same 6-4, 6-3 score. Senior Luke Tedaldi (West Newton, MA) earned the final win, with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at #6.

In the afternoon against Buffalo, Brown won all three doubles matches with Kohli and Lee leading the way with an 8-2 win at #1. Thomas and sophomore Scott Blumenkranz (Portola Valley, CA) posted an 8-2 win at #2, while freshman Basudev Ratnam (Oyster Bay, NY) and Tedaldi earned an 8-4 win at #3.

Hanegby led off at #1 singles with a 6-3, 6-0 win, while Charm posted a 6-2, 6-2 win at #2. Ratnam followed with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at #3, while Tedaldi earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at #4. Garland posted a win at #5 in three sets, 6-2, 6-7, 1-0, while freshman Noah Gardner earned a 6-1, 7-6 (4) win at #6.

The Bears continue action tomorrow, Sunday, January 22nd, when they host Yale in an 11:00 a.m. scrimmage. Brown's next official match is on January 28th, when its faces Clemson at Army.
