Position: Assistant Coach
Matt Shaine begins his second season with the Brown tennis program after making a major impact on the 2003 Brown team.

In his first season as an assistant coach at Brown, Shaine was named the ITA Regional Assistant Coach-of-the-Year. He helped the Bears post a 20-5 overall record, being ranked as high as 32nd nationally. The Bears finished second in the Ivy League standings with a 6-1 Ivy mark.

Shaine comes to Providence from Eugene, Oregon where he spent last year as the volunteer assistant men's coach at the University of Oregon and Head Tennis Pro at the Eugene Country Club.

Prior to serving as an assistant at Oregon, Shaine was a coach and tournament coordinator at the nationally recognized Weil Tennis Academy in Ojai, California. While at Weil, Shaine trained some of the top college and nationally ranked junior players.

A 1999 graduate of the University of Montana with a B.A. in Organizational Communication, Shaine competed four years for the Grizzlies and was elected team captain in both 1998 & 1999. Upon graduation from Montana, Shaine spent the following year competing professionally in Satellite and Futures events throughout the world.

Shaine has also worked as an instructor at the Tucson Racquet Club in Tucson, AZ and has spent time coaching at the International Tennis Academy in Holviken, Sweden.

Shaine is an East Coast native, originally from Pennington, NJ.
