Basu enters this year as a senior captain. He came to Bruno Tennis from Oyster Bay, New York where he worked extensively on his serve and forehand under the tutelage of his father. Last year, Basu led the team with 22 wins in doubles, partnering mostly with Saurabh Kohli '08 at the #1 doubles position. For his efforts, he and Kohli were named First Team All-Ivy.

Last fall, Basu and Chris Lee '09 teamed up to make a run to the semifinals of the 2007 Northeast Regional Tournament. Basu is no stranger to this tournament, as he and his partner, Eric Thomas '07 won the tournament the previous year and then advanced to the quarterfinals of the National Indoor Tournament, earning a National ranking of #11.

Basu was named the team's most improved player his freshman year after moving up the line-up from #10 to #2 and helping the team to the 2006 Ivy League Championship.

Basu focuses his time in the classroom on political science where he currently holds a 3.6 grade point average. He came to Brown from the Oyster Bay High School. Basu played a tough USTA National Schedule and was ranked #3 in the Eastern Section while reaching a high of #36 in the nation in the 16's. His parents are Dev and Runi and they reside in Oyster Bay, New York. He has one older sister Romola, who lives in New York City.
