Position: Assistant Coach

Matt Halfpenny joined the Brown coaching staff in 1999, being reunited with head coach Jon Choboy, who he played for at Charleston Southern University.

A 1998 graduate of Charleston Southern with a B.A. in Business Administration, Halfpenny competed for four conference championships, winning titles in 1996 & 1998, and finishing second in 1994 & 1997. As a junior, he teamed with Nicholas Lavalle to reach the quarterfinals of NCAA Region II doubles championship. His team was ranked as high as eighth in the nation in 1996. Halfpenny earned All-Big South Conference honors in 1995,1996, and 1997, and was co-captain in 1997 & 1998.

Halfpenny competed in USTA junior national events from the age of 12 to the age of 18, playing out of the Middle States section. His highest sectional ranking was #2, while his highest national ranking was #52. He also obtained a national ranking in doubles of #8 in the boy's 14's, and #16 in the boy's 18's.

The 25-year-old Halfpenny worked as an assistant pro at the Sommerville Tennis Club in Sommerville, SC, from 1994 to 1995. He also worked as an assistant pro at the Brickyard Plantation, Mt Pleasant, SC, from 1995 to 1997; the Wild Dunes Resort, Isle of Palms, SC, in 1998: and the Oyster Harbors Club, Osterville, MA, in 1999.

Halfpenny resides in Riverside, Rhode Island.
