PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's tennis team defeated Boston University in two matches, by scores of 5-2 and 7-0, on Saturday at the Pizzitola Sports Center. With the two wins, the Bears improve to 6-2 on the season and have won six straight.
In the first match of the day, a 5-2 victory, the Bears swept the doubles matches. Senior Gregory Garcia (Poway, Calif.) and Lucas Da Silveira (Incline Village, Nev.) cruised to a 6-0 win in the first spot while juniors Jack Haworth (Corby, England) and Anthony Arocho (Norridge, Ill.) followed in second doubles, also a 6-0 win. Juniors Aaron Sandberg (Hudson, Ohio) and Peter Tarwid (Lake Forest, Ill.) closed out doubles with a 6-4 victory in third doubles.
Tarwid made quick work of his first singles match, winning 6-0, 6-2. Haworth (6-3, 6-2, second), Sandberg (6-4, 6-4, third) and Garcia (6-1, 6-2, fourth) rounded out the Bear victories in singles for the first match.
In the second match, Brown again won all three doubles matches, with Tarwid/Garcia, Sandberg/Da Silveira and Haworth/freshman Jacob Walker (Bethesda, Md.) all winning by a score of 6-3.
For singles, Tarwid (6-1, 6-0), Sandberg (6-1, 6-4) and Haworth (6-1, 6-2) won first, second and third singles, respectively. Walker posted a 6-1, 6-3 victory in fourth singles while sophomore Charles Tan (Austin, Texas) followed in fifth with a 6-1, 6-3 win. Da Silveira closed out the wins for the day in sixth singles, 6-0, 6-1.
The Bears will next host Elon and UConn on Saturday, Feb. 25 at the Pizzitola Sports Center. The Phoenix match will begin at 9:00 a.m. and the contest versus the Huskies will begin at 6:00 p.m.
