Men’s Tennis Cruises Past Binghamton and Quinnipiac

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's tennis team opened Saturday defeating Binghamton, 6-1, and then swept Quinnipiac, 7-0, to close out the day at the Pizzitola Sports Center.

In the Bears' first match against Binghamton, seniors Gregory Garcia (Poway, Calif.) and Lucas Da Silveira (Incline Village, Nev.) posted a 6-2 win in first doubles. Juniors Jack Haworth (Corby, England) and Anthony Arocho (Norridge, Ill.) teamed up in second doubles and won their match and the doubles point with a 6-1 victory.

Junior Peter Tarwid (Lake Forest, Ill.) clamed a 6-2, 6-2 win in first singles and was followed by Haworth who won second doubles (6-0, 2-6, 6-2). Garcia then won in the fourth spot (6-3, 6-3) while freshman Peter Litsky (St. Petersburg, Fla.) (6-0, 6-2) and sophomore Charles Tan (Austin, Texas) (7-5, 6-4) won in fifth and sixth singles, respectively.

In the 7-0 sweep of Quinnipiac, Haworth and Arocho won another second doubles match (6-3) and Tarwid and junior Aaron Sandberg (Hudson, Ohio) paired up to win in the third spot (6-2).

Tarwid (6-4, 6-0) and Haworth (2-6, 6-2 7-6 (3) repeated as victors in first and second singles, respectively. Sandberg recorded a 6-2, 6-4 win in third singles while Litsky again won fourth singles, this time 6-3, 6-2. Arocho followed in the fifth spot (6-7, 6-1, 1-0 (5)) and sophomore Mladen Mitak (Zagreb, Croatia) closed out the matches and sweep with a 6-2, 6-4 showing in sixth singles.

The Bears will next host Boston University on Saturday, Feb. 11 in two matches at 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
