Men’s Tennis Records Victories Over Bryant and Boston College

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's tennis team defeated Bryant, 7-0, and Boston College, 5-2, on Sunday at the Pizzitola Sports Center.

In the day's first match against Bryant, the Bears claimed the doubles point with seniors Gregory Garcia (Poway, Calif.) and Lucas Da Silveira (Incline Village, Nev.) winning first doubles, 7-5, and juniors Peter Tarwid (Lake Forest, Ill.) and Aaron Sandberg (Hudson, Ohio) taking third doubles, 6-3.

Sandberg then went on to win first singles, 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (13). Junior Jack Haworth (Corby, England) picked up a victory in second doubles, 6-4, 6-3, and Garcia won third singles, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3. Freshman Peter Litsky (St. Petersburg, Fla.) (6-1, 4-6, 6-1, 4th), freshman Jacob Walker (Bethesda, Md.) (6-2, 6-2, 5th) and junior Anthony Arocho (Norridge, Ill.) (7-5, 7-5, 6th) completed the sweep for Brown.

Against the Eagles, Garcia and Da Silveira again teamed up to win first doubles, 6-1. Tarwid and Sandberg were also repeat victors, taking third doubles by a score of 6-3.

In singles play, Sandberg (6-1, 6-2) and Haworth (6-2, 6-1) won in first and second singles, respectively. Walker won fourth singles in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 and sophomore Charles Tan (Austin, Texas) closed out the day for the Bears with a 7-5, 6-3 win in the sixth spot.

The Bears will remain at home and next host Binghamton and Quinnipiac on Saturday, Feb. 4. The match against the Bearcats will start at 10:00 a.m. and the match against the Bobcats will begin at 3:00 p.m.
