Hanover, N.H. – The Brown men's tennis team (0-2), ranked 51st in the current ITA poll, dropped a 4-2 decision to undefeated Purdue (7-0) in a neutral-site match played Sunday afternoon at Dartmouth College.
The Bears dropped the doubles point, falling at #1 and #3. However, the team of sophomore Michael Riechmann (Houston, TX) and senior Mike Hill (Topsham, ME) won for the second straight match, beating Purdue's Krisztian Krocsko and Szymon Tatarczyk at #2, 8-5.
In singles action, Purdue posted wins at #2, #5 and #6 to earn the four points necessary for the victory. Highlighting the singles competition was sophomore William Spector's win at #3 singles, where he upset the #118th-ranked player in the nation, Diego Acosta, 7-6, 7-5. Brown's other point came at #4 singles, where junior Sam Fife (Scarsdale, NY) earned a 6-3, 6-1 win over Pawel Poziomski. Riechmann also played singles, but his match against Tatarczyk at #1 was suspended once the team score was decided.
The Bears continue action at home this coming weekend when they host Binghamton (9:30 a.m.) and Quinnipiac (1:30 p.m.) in a double-header on Saturday.
