PROVIDENCE, RI – The Brown men's tennis team will host a world-class tennis event at the Pizzitola Center Indoor Courts Friday evening, November 30th. The event will feature an ATP Doubles Exhibition match pitting Brown alumni Jamie Cerretani '04 and Adil Shamasdin '05 against Eric Buturac and Tigran Martirosyan.
The evening begins with a junior clinic from 6:00-7:00 p.m. and is followed by an hour-long silent auction and meet and greet. Following the silent action, the quartet will play a best two-out-of-three doubles match with a superbreaker for the third set.
Auction items include signed memorabilia from Roger Federer, Andy Murray, legendary doubles great Leander Paes, Bryan Brothers and more. Proceeds will benefit Brown men's tennis, Tenacity and the JC Scholarship Foundation.
While at Brown, Cerretani and Shamasdian were a formidable doubles pairing for three years. The duo was ranked as high as #7 in the country in 2004, earning a 22-2 record during that season. They qualified for the 2004 NCAA Doubles Championship, advancing to the second round.
As professionals, Cerretani has advanced to the Wimbledon Doubles Quarterfinals in both 2011 and 2012, while Shamasdin won the South African Open Championship in 2011 and was a Doubles Finalist at the 2011 Newport Hall of Fame Tournament.
Butorac was both a semifinalist (2011) and quarterfinalist (2012) at the Australian Open, while Martirosyan, a former All-American at Kentucky, is ranked #350 in the World ATP.
