Sophomore men’s tennis player Michael Riechmann (Houston, TX) was named Second Team All-Ivy in singles following a vote by the League’s eight head coaches.

Bears Close Season with 4-3 Loss at #57 Yale
The Brown men’s tennis team (14-10, 3-4) was edged by #57 Yale, 4-3, in its 2013 season finale in New Haven. The Bears won the doubles point to take the early lead, but the Bulldogs earned wins in four of the six singles matches to come back for the victory. Freshman Lucas Da Silveira (Incline Village, NV) and junior Sam Fife (Scarsdale, NY) led the way for Brown, winning in both singles and doubles.

Men's Tennis Upsets #21 Harvard, 4-2, Handing Crimson First Ivy Loss
The Brown men's tennis team (14-9, 3-3) upset #21 Harvard, 4-2, on Thursday evening, handing the Crimson their first Ivy League loss of the season. The Bears won and extremely tight doubles point and then earned three singles wins to pick up the 4-2 victory.

Men’s Tennis Defeats Dartmouth, 4-3
The Brown men’s tennis team (13-9, 2-3) hosted Dartmouth (9-13, 1-5) in its final home match of the 2013 season and edged the Big Green, 4-3. The Bears dropped the doubles point, but came back to win four of the six singles matches and earn the victory.

The Brown men’s tennis team (12-9, 1-3) dropped a 5-2 decision to #51 Cornell on Sunday afternoon in Ithaca. The Big Red won the doubles point with victories at #1 and #3 and then won four of the six singles matches.

The Brown men's tennis team (12-7, 1-1) dropped a 4-3 decision to #51 Princeton (14-4, 3-0) on Sunday afternoon in Providence. The match came down to the final singles match, where Princeton's Matt Slow outlasted junior Sam Fife (Scarsdale, NY) in a three-set battle.

The Brown men's tennis team (12-6, 1-0) opened its Ivy schedule with a 5-2 win over visiting Penn on Saturday afternoon at the Pizzitola Center courts. The Bears won all three doubles matches and then claimed four of six singles matches to post the victory, while improving to 12-6 overall.

The Brown men’s tennis team (9-6) dropped a 5-2 decision to South Florida (7-7) in its final match during a spring break trip to Florida. USF won the doubles point and never looked back, earning wins in four of the six singles matches to take the 5-2 win.

The Brown men’s tennis team (7-5) hosted Buffalo and UConn in a double-header Saturday afternoon and defeated both the Bulls, 7-0, and the Huskies, 6-1. Sophomore Daniel Hirschberg (Westport, CT) and freshman Ivan Kravtchenko (Sunnyvale, CA) both won two singles matches to help lead the Bears.

The Brown men’s tennis team (5-5) traveled up I-95 to face Boston College on Tuesday evening and defeated the Eagles, 5-2. The Bears won at #1 doubles and then claimed victories in the top five singles positions to earn the win, while improving to .500 on the season.

#61 Men’s Tennis Defeats #59 Dartmouth, 4-1, to Earn 5th at ECAC Championships
The 61st-ranked Brown men’s tennis team (4-5), seeded fifth at the ECAC Team Championships, earned a 4-1 win over sixth-seeded and 59th-ranked Dartmouth to claim fifth place at the Tournament. Played in a five-and-one format, the Bears earned singles wins at #3 and #5 singles and then earned the lone doubles victory, worth two points, to claim a 4-1 victory.

The Yale men’s tennis team, seeded 8th at the ECAC Team Championships, edged fifth-seeded and 61st-ranked Brown (3-5) in the consolation bracket Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs won in straight sets at the top three singles matches to clinch the victory after earning the earlier doubles point with wins at #1 and #3.

The 61st-ranked Brown men's tennis team (3-3) dropped a 4-3 decision to #32 Indiana (6-5) on Saturday afternoon. The two teams split the six singles matches, but the Hoosiers swept all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point, which would prove to be the difference.

The #61 Brown men’s tennis team (3-2) traveled to Indiana and earned a 5-2 win at Ball State on Friday afternoon in the first of two matches to be played in the Hoosier State. The Bears claimed the doubles point with wins at #1 and #3 and then earned four singles wins to post the 5-2 decision. Senior Mike Hill (Topsham, ME), junior Sam Fife (Scarsdale, NY), and sophomore William Spector (Weston, MA) helped to lead Brown, as each won in both singles and doubles.

The #61 Brown men’s tennis team (2-2) hosted Binghamton and Quinnipiac in a double-header Saturday morning and defeated both the Bearcats, 6-1, and the Bobcats, 7-0, to pick up its first victories of the young season. Several Bears won multiple matches on the day, including junior David Neff (New York, NY) and freshman Ivan Kravtchenko (Sunnyvale, CA), who were both 2-0 in singles action.

Brown Hosting World-Class Tennis Event November 30th
The Brown men’s tennis team will host a world-class tennis event at the Pizzitola Center Indoor Courts Friday evening, November 30th. The event will feature an ATP Doubles Exhibition match pitting Brown alumni Jamie Cerretani ’04 and Adil Shamasdin ’05 against Eric Buturac and Tigran Martirosyan.

Amit Inbar Named Assistant Men’s Tennis Coach
Brown head men’s tennis coach David Schwarz has announced the hiring of Amit Inbar as an assistant coach with the program. Inbar comes to Brown after spending the 2011-12 season as a volunteer assistant coach at UCLA.

Bears Conclude Fall Season at Harvard Invitational
The Brown men’s tennis team completed its fall season at the Harvard Invitational over the weekend. Six different Bears competed in the three-day event, including junior Soufiane Azargui (Burlington, Ontario) and sophomore Jacob Laser (Glencoe, IL), who were scheduled to play each other in the finals of the “B” singles flight on Monday. However, due to Hurricane Sandy, the teammates will now face each other at Brown some time this week.

Sophomore William Spector (Weston, MA) fell in the ITA Northeast Regional Quarterfinals, hosted by Yale, on Monday. Seeded 13th in the Tournament, Spector fell to third-seeded John Huang, of Yale, 6-3, 6-1.

Spector Advances to Quarterfinals of ITA Northeast Regionals
Sophomore William Spector (Weston, MA) has advanced to Monday’s quarterfinals at the 2012 ITA Northeastern Regionals, hosted by Yale. Seeded 13th in the tournament, Spector had a bye in the Round of 128, before winning matches against players from Yale, Columbia, and Harvard to advance to the Quarterfinals, where he will face third-seeded John Huang of Yale.

Men’s Tennis Wins 19 of 24 Matches on Final Day of Brown Invitational
The Brown men’s tennis team picked up a total of 20 wins on the final day of competition at the Brown Invitational, in memory of Margaux Powers. Leading the way on Saturday were juniors Brandon Burke (Kingston, Jamaica) and Sam Fife (Scarsdale, NY) and sophomore William Spector (Weston, MA), who all went 3-0.

The Brown men’s tennis team hosted Penn in a hidden dual match as part of the first day of competition at the Brown Invitational, in Memory of Margaux Powers. Playing a total of 11 matches, seven in singles and four in doubles, the Bears were victorious in nine of them, winning six singles matches and three doubles matches.

Laser and Riechmann Combine to Win #2 Doubles Flight at USTA Collegiate Invitational
Sophomores Jacob Laser (Glencoe, IL) and Michael Riechmann (Houston, TX) teamed up to claim the #2 doubles flight at the USTA Collegiate Invitational. Juniors Brandon Burke (Kingston, Jamaica) and Sam Fife (Scarsdale, NY) also advanced to the finals of their doubles bracket, the #1 flight, while Fife led Brown in singles action, advancing to the semifinals of the “B” flight before getting eliminated. Riechmann also competed in singles, representing Brown in the “A” flight, while Burke competed in the “B” singles flight and Laser competed in the “D” singles flight.

Brown Wins Three Singles Flights and One Doubles Flight at Brown Invitational
n its first action of the season, the Brown men’s tennis team won three singles flights and one doubles flight at its own invitational. In addition to the winners, three other players were finalists in their respective flights, while three other doubles teams were finalists in their respective flights. Senior Tom Deighton (London, England) and sophomore Michael Riechmann (Houston, TX) helped to lead the way for Brown, as each won their singles flights and combined to win the aqua doubles flight.

Men's Tennis Opens 2012-13 Season with Brown Invitational
The Brown men’s tennis team is opening its season this weekend with a home tournament, the Brown Invitational. The competition, which runs from Sept. 14-16, has been a success for the Bears in the past. In 2011, men’s tennis won seven out of 12 draws. Each player will have a chance to join in the action, with a lot of match play in both singles and doubles. The team hopes to try out some new doubles combinations.
